ANIMAL FARM
Yesterday afternoon we went to see a theatre play: ANIMAL FARM by George Orwell. You will be able to read some reviews soon.
ANIMAL FARM
The title of this play is Animal Farm and the author is George Orwell.
The plot is about the revolution of the animals who live in a farm
called Manor Farm. They get free from the humans, and when the animals take
control of the farm, they start having many problems and they do the same
things as humans used to do.
The actors portray the main characters very well. The play didn’t
fulfill my expectations because I thought that there would be many characters,
and there were only four people, and I thought that they would change the
scence and they didn’t.
My best character is the horse because it was very funny and it made
strange faces.
My memorable scene is when Napoleon gets drunk, and in the commandments
drinking was forbidden.
It made me laugh. Napoleon, the pig did it very well.
I didn’t like it because there were few characters, they didn’t change
the scence and the songs were repetitive.
I suggest the reader not to see the play because I think that he/she
will not like it.

ANIMAL FARM
This story
is about animals that they want to be like the humans and they make a farm before
the second revolution. The author is George Orwell.
The actors
were perfect. I like all of them a lot but the best was the horse. He never
moved and he was always making strange things with the face.
One scene
that I liked was when the pig and the sheep were changing the rules and the
horse and the goat didn’t know what was happening. I liked it because it was
funny
I liked the
play because the story was interesting and I liked the actors too but I think
that this was for children .

BRITISH FESTIVALS
As
you know, we have been talking about British festivals in class lately. Here is
a summary of the main ones that we have discussed:
Halloween: 31st October
Halloween
started in Britain over two thousand years ago as a Celtic festival. Over the
years it has spread to other countries, in particular the USA. People celebrate
Halloween by wearing fancy dress and going trick-or-treating. People also have
Halloween parties, where they play games such as ‘apple bobbing’ and ‘doughnut
on a string’ . People also talk about scary stories and traditions, for
example, Bloody Mary ( who appears in the bathroom mirror after you say her
name three times)
Bonfire Night: 5th November
British
people celebrate bonfire night every year to remember the failure of the
‘Gunpowder Plot’. In 1605, a man called Guy Fawkes and his friends wanted to
kill the King of England and the government. They planned to do this by blowing
up the Houses of Parliament. They built a tunnel underneath the houses of
Parliament and filled it with gunpowder. Someone wrote a letter to a friend who
worked in the Houses of Parliament, warning them to stay away. The King saw
this letter and Guy Fawkes was caught and executed before he could do anything.
This failure is celebrated by making bonfires and putting a ‘Guy’ on top to
burn. There are also fireworks and people eat baked potatoes, sausages and
toffee apples.
Remembrance
Day: 11th November
Remembrance
Day is a day in which the whole country remembers and shows their respects to
soldiers who have died whilst fighting for their country. It started after the
First World War, which ended ‘on the eleventh hour, of the eleventh day, of the
eleventh month’. Every year, at 11AM there is two minutes silence everywhere-
schools, offices, shops etc. People also wear paper poppies to show their
respect and there are special church services and events at memorials in each
town.
Christmas: 25th December
In
Britain, Christmas celebrations start on Christmas eve ( 24th
December) with a midnight church service. Children put out mince pies and a
glass of sherry for ‘Father Christmas’ and when they wake up on Christmas
morning, the food has gone and been replaced by presents. There is a big meal
at lunchtime, with turkey and roast potatoes. For desert people have Christmas
pudding, which is set alight. People also pull crackers, which are made of
paper and contain a present, a paper crown and a joke. In Britain, Christmas
day is the main day- Kings day is not celebrated- infact it is often the day
people have to go back to work!
New Year’s Eve: 31st December
New
Year’s Eve is usually celebrated with a big party and fireworks. After the
clock strikes midnight, everyone crosses their arms over themselves and holds
hands with their neighbours and they sing ‘Auld Lang Syne’. People also make
‘New Year’s Resolutions’, which is something they intend to do in the coming
year. For example, my new year’s resolution is to learn Spanish.
April Fool’s Day: 1st
April
This
is a day in which people play practical jokes and hoaxes on each other.
However, the joke has to be done by twelve ‘o’clock, otherwise the person
playing the joke is the fool.
Shrove Tuesday
This
is known as ‘pancake day’ and takes place the day before Lent starts. Families
make pancakes, in order to use up all the sugar before the forty days of Lent.
Traditionally, people have lemon and sugar with their pancakes.
Easter
Easter
in the United Kingdom is celebrated by giving chocolate eggs to children. There
is a family lunch, with roast lamb. For dessert there is a special cake called
Simnel cake, which is a fruit cake with a layer of marzipan inside and on top.

BBC NEWS
This year all the students of ESO watch the news every week.
They watch “One- minute World News” on BBC. The aim of this activity is to
improve their listening skills and to learn about what is going on in the world. But, what
do the students think about it? Let’s see their opinions.

3.- Hello Vedruna Class
the diamond Jubilee is
when a monarch has reigned over us 60 years. There has only been one
monarch who has had a diamond Jubilee Queen Victoria
Queen Elizabeth 2nd was
crowned in 1953 and she is still ruling in 2012. We think this is a
very big achievement. Hundreds of people across the United kingdom
have been holding street parties to celebrate this historic event.
We celebrated the day by
doing several dances such as the Gay Gordon's and the twist. We sang
the British national anthem god save the Queen and made our crowns We
had a red white and blue snack which included vanilla ice cream,
Strawberry or Raspberry sauce and Blueberries. We didn't have to wear
our school uniform instead we got to wear red white and blue clothing
to match the colour of our flag.
We have some questions for
you
Do you have a king or
Queen in Spain?
If you have a monarch how
long has it ruled?
what is her/his name?
from Kaitlyn, Connor,
Rory, Travis, Logan

4.- Hello
Vedruna Class
we
would like to tell you about the weather in Scotland .In Scotland the
weather can be very dull but over the last few weeks it has been very
warm.
In
Spring it can be sunny but cold. All the nice flowers and trees start
to grow in the Spring. Sometimes there are baby cows, lambs and
calves that are born in the Spring.
In
Summer it can be warm so you need to put lots of sun cream on. The
good thing about Summer is that you can play at the beach and play
during the Summer holidays.
In
Autumn it can be drizzly and windy sometimes we get red, orange and
yellow leaves.
When
it is drizzly you can stay snug inside with the fire on (or heating).
In
winter it can be very snowy hear like last year. sometimes
it can come down with hailstones which are frozen pieces of snow and
they can be very sore when they hit you.slush is very soggy snow.
We
have got some questions we would like to ask you:
1.Have
you ever seen snow?
2.What
is the highest tempruter you have ever had?
3.
Would you ever like it to snow in your country?
From
Lindsay, Anya, Ailsa and Lauren.
